CRYSTAL FIELD — MIST, FIREFLIES, JAGGED PURPLE-AND-WHITE QUARTZ TALLER THAN MEMORY. Cosmo strides forward with one arm raised, ready to confront the giant crystals — to conquer the strange place. Beside him Nova does something smaller: she stands by a single orange flame, no taller than a thumb, and tends it. Cosmo will tell you the crystals are the scene. They aren't. The crystals only glow because the little fire is there to be reflected. The giant landscape is borrowing all its light from the one small thing somebody bothered to keep alight. 💡 THE INSIGHT: The towering thing rarely makes its own light. Tend the small flame; the giants will glow on loan. 📐 THE EQUATION: one tended flame > a whole field of cold crystal 🚀 Cosmo (arm raised at the crystals): "I'm going to take on the big shiny ones! …Nova, why are you babysitting a spark?" 👽 Nova: "The pattern is — the crystals have no light of their own.
