Cosmo looks at the philosopher marionettes in the wings and at the crossbars above and braces for a grand revelation: someone, somewhere, is controlling the play. Nova lets the stage answer for her. The crossbars hang slack. No hands. The four are simply moving — walking, talking, choosing — and the play is happening anyway.
