AMETHYST CAVERN — TOWERING PURPLE CRYSTALS, A FLOATING BRAIN MOTIF, FIGURES ON EVERY LEDGE. Two Cosmos and two Novas stand on a raised platform; Stella, Luna and other figures gather among the crystals around a glowing brain at the cavern's heart. Cosmo sees his own doubled self and almost panics — which one is real, has the cave made a copy, is he being replaced. Then he looks at the floating brain they have all gathered around, and the cavern's strange arithmetic resolves. This is not a glitch. It is a portrait of an idea, the way an idea actually lives: never inside one head, but doubled, echoed, carried in many minds at once, each version slightly its own. The brain glows because so many travelers are gathered to keep it kindled. An idea held by one person is a candle.
